In this short Soccer Betting Glossary we will take a closer look on some off the most common terms in soccer betting. This article is part of our Beginner's Guide For Online Soccer Betting.

Accumulator: An accumulator or parlay bet is a single bet which is linked to several other wagers, all the selections made must win for you to win the accumulator.

Asian Handicap: A type of bet where one team is given a handicap, making the odds of beating the handicap around evens and the odds of not beating the handicap around evens. The match will only have two possible outcomes.

Bettor: A person who bets.

Bookie: Short of bookmaker. The person who accepts bets.

Bookmaker: A person or organization that takes bets on sporting and other events at agreed upon odds.

Decimal odds: The odds expressed as a decimal. For example even odds 1/1 are quoted in decimal odds as 2, while the 1/4 odds are quoted as 1.25.

European Handicap: The goal advantage in favor of one of the two teams is always a whole number and thus there are three possible outcomes.

EVS: Evens, this is when the return will be double your stake. The profit on your bet will be the same as the amount you staked. Both you and the bookmaker are risking the same amount on the bet.

Handicap: Handicap betting offers the opportunity to bet on the outcome of a match where one team has been given a points start. See also Asian Handicap and European Handicap.

Odds: The bookmakers view of chance of a team winning, adjusted to include a profit.

OT: Short of overtime.

Overtime: An additional period of play to bring the game to a decision and avoid declaring the soccer match a draw.

Over/under: A bet that is won or lost depending upon the combined score of both teams in a game. The bettor is not interested in which team wins the game, only the final score.

Scorecast: Type of bet where you attempt to predict the first goal scorer and the correct score.

Three-way bet (1X2): Type of bet where the bettor marks "1" for a home win, "X" for a draw and "2" for an away win. Most common type off soccer betting.

Tipster: A person who provides betting tips for the likely outcome of soccer matches.

"X": Taken to mean 'a draw' on a soccer betting coupon.
